Another, Diffrent, Chapter added... THE PART - BRED SA BOERPERD: For some years now, SA Boerperd Breeders and owners have been breeding Part Bred SA Boerperde. Breeds which have been used for cross breeding include Warmbloods, Friesians, Thoroughbreds, Saddlers, Arabs and Welsh Ponies.
Many of these crosses were registered with other Societies allowing cross bred horses. The SA Boerperd Breeders Society rather wanted to see these horses as Part Bred SA Boerperde.
Since 2000 birth notifications were accepted by the Breeders Society for Part Bred horses. Like all SA Boerperde, the part bred horses also have to be inspected before they are registered as Part Bred SA Boerperde.
The Part Bred SA Boerperde will open new markets for the breed; the horses now get a status with recognised registration documents and are branded with the Society's stamp of approval on the right hind quarter.
The buyer will have the advantage of buying a horse with registration documents, knowing the heritage of the horse and knowing it went through a selection process and was found worthy of quality to be registered in the Part Bred register of the SA Boerperd Breeders Society.
Procedures for Part Bred SA Boerperd Registration:
A Part Bred SA Boerperd can be identified from its breeding as 50% SA Boerperd and 50% other breed. No restriction has been placed as to which other breed may be used. The progeny of a registered and branded SA Boerperd stallion or mare crossed with any other breed may be registered as a Part Bred SA Boerperd if the following criteria are adhered to: 1.] Either the stallion or mare must be registered and branded and belong to registered SA Boerperd breeder. 2.] All SA Boerperd breeding stallions must have their DNA registered for either breeding pure bred- or part bred horses. 3.] If a registered SA Boerperd mare is bred to another stallion both their DNA must be registered. 4.] A Service certificate must be obtained (if the owner of either the stallion or mare is not their own property and registered as such) from the owner of either the stallion or mare. 5.] When the foal is born its DNA must be registered. 6.] A birth notification (obtainable from the Society) containing all relevant information must be send to the SA Boerperd Breeders Society within 90 days after the birth of the foal stipulating clearly the breed and name of either the mare or stallion of the other breed. A Service certificate (of either mare or stallion if not own property) must be attached. 7.] From the age of 2½ years or older, the owner of the part bred foal may apply to the Society for a grading inspection. Attached to the application must be: 7.1.] A copy of the birth notification form. 7.2.] DNA certificate of the mare. (Pure bred or other breed) 7.3.] DNA certificate of stallion (Other breed) 7.4.] DNA certificate of foal. 7.5.] The payment or proof of payment for the cost of inspection as determined by the Board. 7.6.] A map with directions to the property where the horse is kept An Inspector will contact the applicant and make an appointment. 8.] If the foal is found to be acceptable and correct in confirmation etc., the inspector will brand the Part Bred SA Boerperd on the right hind quarter. The brand will be a horseshoe with an "X" in the middle (X). 9.] If a Part Bred SA Boerperd stallion or mare is bred back to a Pure Bred SA Boerperd their progeny will remain as Part Bred and will never receive the status of Pure Bred SA Boerperde. 10.] At this stage all Part Bred SA Boerperde must consist of 50% Pure Bred SA Boerperd. 11.] As soon as enough Part Bred SA Boerperde are registered and numbers allow it, classes at SA Boerperd Shows will be created. |
